At William James & Associates, we believe in fair trade in safe food, and have extensive experience and expertise in both imports and exports.
Having managed the entire import inspection program at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), we are intimately familiar with requirements in important sectors.
Initial Equivalence – We have assisted numerous countries and companies in understanding U.S. food safety standards & procedures, and programs & policies. We are experts at preparing countries to request equivalence determinations from FSIS, and to pass initial equivalence audits. William James & Associates also aids foreign companies in evaluating their own food safety systems and preparing for certification by their in-country competent authority to export to the U.S. and other 3rd countries.
On-going Equivalence – Maintaining equivalence is vital in order to continue to export to the U.S. We have assisted countries who have had their exports to the US suspended in their entirety, or for a particular product class or species, so that exports could resume quickly. If exports from your individual company’s establishment have been suspended, William James & Associates has broad experience in conducting audits of foreign food establishments. We will be able to help you correct identified deficiencies and resume exporting as soon as possible.
Import Inspection – Our Associates are familiar with all aspects of the U.S. import inspection program. Are you having difficulty with importation of a particular product, or at a particular import-house (I-House) or port-of-entry? We developed the current U.S. import inspection program, and can help you navigate import requirements and resolve your problem.
C-TPAT – We have successfully guided companies in their efforts to achieve Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism supply chain certification, or to re-gain their certification if lost after undergoing a validation by Customs and Border Protection (CBP). William James & Associates has developed C-TPAT security questionnaires and risk-assessment processes, and has evaluated foreign suppliers for U.S. companies in order to maintain their certification.
William James & Associates understands how important exports are in today’s global economy. We have participated in the opening of numerous countries to U.S. products, and have enabled many companies to have their establishments re-listed for export to specific nations.
Our Associates have served in positions such as Assistant Administrator of the FSIS Office of International Affairs, Manager of the U.S. Codex Office, and Lead Delegate of the U.S. delegation to the Codex Committee on Meat Hygiene. Having exercised oversight of the FSIS Export Staff, we are highly familiar with its activities, and the content and purposes of the Export Library.
William James & Associates also works continually with various trade associations, foreign embassies, the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR), the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS), and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to provide input on trade policies and negotiations, and to resolve specific trade issues.
How may we help you?
